Friday mumbles

The Kansas contingent, with out posts in OK, will have to learn to walk with feet on terra firma now that they've rooted the Jayhawks into a national championship.

Around here we watch bridges being built and rebuilt. If you don't have time to look, I was amazed at the You Tube link included of the rebuilding of the Bayou Liberty bridge. I often head there to take pictures. St. Genevieve Church has been torn down and the marina still looks a little battered, but it's a pretty spot.

Then there's some economics. My thought was that Bear Stearns needed to be bought and stabilized before the whole financial system went into sympathetic vibration. But from the opposite side of the political spectrum, the eighty year old Voelker seems to have some important thoughts on the Fed bailing out. But then when he gets to politics, I have to wonder if it's an elaborate articulation of the talking points on the democratic side. Nothing seems to happen independent of politics these days.

Ok, I take it back. In January the kids participated in the Pinewood Derby, I don't think there was a political murmur. Then again, there were no reporters either.

The thing that happens when you're retired is these funny social moments can just pop up from nowhere. I had Cameron today, and next thing I know, Tara and Darryl are here and Marianne and Barry are bringing sandwiches from Habanos.

So here's a topic I should have an opinion on. Mostly my opinion is WTF? Doesn't anyone take responsibility for anything anymore? Third graders plotting to kill their teacher and there's a stink about it's the teacher's fault? Or take it to the high school level and post You Tube video of egging on a student to be violently confrontational with a teacher. The principal seems to have his head firmly stuck near the end of the digestive track when he opines that it may be the teacher's fault. Huh? I didn't follow links to see what all was available online of these incidents, I just was appalled. Things in education land have reached a pretty pass indeed.
