Some random questions and thoughts

Foster care anyone? I've had no direct contact with the government and its foster care. But considering how the goverment messes up about everything it touches, this rant from a foster provider sounds about right. Any direct knowlege of fostering? What's your take? Is it fine? If it needs fixing, what sort of fix? How might it be accomplished? Just wondering.

Foster care reminds me of the fiasco in Texas with three figures of children placed in foster care at the behest of the local constabulary. Any thoughts on what's going on in TX? The Texas take down of the fundamentalist Morman group was a set up? Give me more law enforcement, please.

This sort of stuff really lights my fire. After the earthquake in Illinois this USGS graphic is interesting. Cool graphic.

And I'll see if I can't find a photo... Yup, here's the one I was messing with in Photoshop before I left for Tulsa. walking in front of any Mardi Gras parade is a phalanx of vendors selling stuff that the kids love and will discard in a very few minutes. I have no idea if there are some permits sold of if it's totally a free for all. I doubt it, because it always follows the same form, and looks alike. Mardi Gras parades are definitely about JUNK! I liked the "Party City" store behind, and it was a picture perfect day. But Photo Shop and I got crosswise of each other. I wanted to make it all black and white, and then color the buggies, and feather the blend area. This is the sort of picture Dana tells me strongly NEVER to share. But everything I do is about process and learning something. So the frustrations of NOT getting there is also part of the process.

I did get some photos of Mother in the Wig shop and time on the riverfront in Tulsa while I was there. None of the marvelous wild flowers. Spring... makes me glad to be alive.

Re: Some random questions and thoughts
Do I have a comment on foster care? There aren't enough pages printed to contain all my comments. I've worked the system from both sides, both as an ER nurse and a grandmother caring for babies to avoid foster care. My succinct comment would be, too much bureacratic nonsense and no people to people supervision in the field. My latest example that raises my blood pressure is Weld County Colorado where in a period of one year, three young girls from totally different families and locations died at the hands of the their care givers, all family, and all were deeply emeshed in the social services system, which out here decided who goes to foster care. One 8 year old was beaten to death by her 17-year-old sister and boyfriend in a "reenactment of a video game". Right, I believe that. A set of twins had previously been removed from this home in Colorado and another child removed in Arizona, but although the school reported and social services investigated, this battered child was considered "safe" and left there. A 7 year old was literally locked in a closet and starved to death, weighing 28 pounds at her death. She was in "foster care" in the care of an aunt and boyfriend because the mother was considered cruel and inappropriate. There were three other children involved. When the case worker made home visits, she was told the 7 year old was outside playing. EVEN THOUGH THE THREE YEAR OLD SAID MANY TIMES "SHE'S IN THE CLOSET", no one ever looked in the closet. The third was treated worse than the first two, and her story is one of years of battering and sexual abuse and so on until she finally gave up and died. Again, five other children in the home were fine and kept telling the social worker about her bruises, but were not listened to. Years ago out here a 3-year-old named Michael Manning was also starved to death, because he wet his pants, and was "buried" in a garbage sack in the closet. In court, the mom did it, the boyfriend did it, and they were both found guilty of child abuse, but not murder or manslaughter or anything that would indicate a child died. Amazingly, they had another child in Chicago who social services there was following, but when they left Chicago, the child never appeared in Colorado. Wonder where he's buried? The poster at the time showed the ocean waving onto a downed seagull. The caption: A small bird fell from the sky and died, and no one cared, and no one cried. I have no tears left for foster care, I have cried them all. Out here, the going rate for foster care is about $450.00 a month and families are allowed up to six children. Quite a nice income, and all they have to do is have home visits twice a year. Aren't you glad you asked for comments on that? RE Texas and the commune out there, more power to DNA. Don't allow any children in that situation. If adults want to live like that, their choice, but to my judgmental mind, they should be sterilized before they enter into that type of relationship and keep the kids out of it. The world is hard enough when you know who your parents are and when you're allowed to be a child before you're expected to assume adult sexual responsibilites. I assume you're back from Tulsa. How was that? Computer fixed?
