US Census Press Releases/Mother's Day

Census facts about Mother's Day So here's everything you ever wanted to know about Mother's Day. Except there's no mention of how just having such a day makes this mother half crazy. The problem is just one of getting your hopes up for some sort of celebratory day.

Lileks says it so well. Stop and read a delightful column, and then rejoin my rant in progress. Really.. do yourself the favor. Maybe even skip my rant.

Here's the sad and sick story of the relationship with my mother and my daughters. Last week I asked Tara what she wanted for her birthday. Somehow a plan was hatched to go celebrate next Friday evening when Marianne was off work, kind of a combined birthdays and Mother's Day. It was the same time as a bridge party, but I was ready to cancel the bridge date, plan on entertaining myself on Sunday, which is what I usually do anyway.

Yesterday, the plan was hatched, and I started looking forward to seeing the girls today. A car wouldn't start. Final exam pressure mounted. I ended up hurt and disappointed. I told one daughter. She told her sister. Sister called me and yelled. I called my mother. She told me to suck it up an get used to it. I said "Damn it I'm disappointed and entitled." Before getting off the phone I was yelling at my aged parent, trying to express that I was entitled to feel anyway I felt.

I just got off the phone with Tara, and I'll be off to some daily ablutions before going to buy some cheese and wine to go with this homemade bread that's about to come out of the machine. I'll be at Chuck and Veda's if you need me.
