I had not read of the pope requiring the Jews to wear armbands, though it's not far fetched that they did wear them. I read that Jews wore a patch with a dog, and Christians with a pig in Andalus, under at least one of the islamic dynasties. I read that in reference to Cordoba. It's not a new or original idea. The masses of men and their followers crusading must have seemed like a river of men, needing feeding and a place to camp. They must have seemed some plague to the folk in their path.

I didn't read far enough in the History of the Crusades (almost finished V2) to read of the Children's crusade. There's information on it in wikipedia.

Here's a link to a copy of the treatment of the Children's crusade in Runciman, which is the set of books I was reading. http://www.historyguide.org/ancient/children.html

And in our pride at being the generation that finally had the freedom from work to question, we have managed to raise a generation, now quickly heading toward middle age, of instant gratification children. I tried to avoid that, but it's hard to do alone and when the other parent always has a credit card to curry favor with, well, neither of us did our kids any favors in that regard. If you must keep returning to the crusades, then I must become more educated. Here's what I know about the Crusades, and all I know, so please correct me if I had these tidbits wrong, also. During the Crusades, by edict of the Holy Roman Pope (!), all Jews were required to wear an armband or some type of identification so the crusaders would know they were not Crhistian, and therefore, fair game. What stunning example that Pope set for posterity. The Children's Crusade took many children, most of whom were neglected or abandoned kids, and after a forced march to Egypt, sold them into slavery where the 30% or so who survived the march were loaded into boats and sent off to serve their new masters....maybe to South Africa, but memory isn't clear on where they went. So, educate me a bit, please, so I don't have to go to the reference books for every blog about the crusades. I really didn't like them and thought them horribly persecutional and aimed not at the glory that is God but at the land grab and military control of people. Aren't you glad I'm back?

Good thing you like a challenge. I have had in your face experience already this year with a school bully...and he is 5! And all the explanations from teacher and principal about the lousy home life and all the "redirecting" they are trying to do come to nothing when I see this child pushing and shoving and hitting other kids. I just want to bring him up to face level and yell "no" at him, but of course that's a resisted impulse. There are ways to build a child's self esteem without detracting from the others in the group, but Lord knows, I wouldn't want to put the effort into it that you will be required to do. .....This time, Lord, you gave me a mountain...A mountain too high for me to climb......Good luck getting creative with this one.

I love that garden. Every now and then I see an appoximation of that fountain in downtown Houston. All I can say is the water jets are like that but nothing else is even remotely similar. That is such a serene place. It lowers my blood pressure just seeing your picture. Mind if I grab a copy?

Latin Americans take so much pride in beauty contest, the same way they show pride in soccer games.Honduras was one of the few latin countries to participate in the world cup.also the first to be eliminated. Now Honduras was rated among the best 100 countries to visit. We live in a contest world.
The guy at the video he is an art critic for the times pycune.Katrina left a wound in the city of New Orleans and it looks like is never going to heal, neverless "mardi gra" is coming " The media has flash back katrina misery...That was five years ago...The sad thing is the city of New Orleans lack city and state Hospitals.Except for the Oschner and Touro, hospital that are private..so much for the low income people.I guess the media dont care about that.

Actually, I'm temporarily in Aurora again. My mother has gotten a bug about "cleaning up and clearing out" stuff so "you kids won't have to do it". Thus, I have hand shredded three huge boxes of medical bills and EOB's from insurance from 1987 and 1988 for both Bill's. Been not up to my usual state of ill health this week. Trouble in the heartland again and chaos surrounding. However, I did not know there was anything beyond "I want to solve cancer and work for world peace" in a beauty pageant. We read, we learn.

The internet is not only for sad and lonely people, its also a media to have an audience.like to become famous from the obscurity .to reach audiences that you will never meet in your life.I can get thousands of responses, the lonely it gets, the famous I am.Somehow its sad that millions of people use the internet to watch and read garbage for example 'Hollywood life style of the movie stars"and believe or not facebook is contributing to young people to become mental lazy...a big problem in this country.High school students are failing in math and western history, but they are getting a plus on facebook.Intelligent people always be intelligent..its a choice to be on the keyboard or use your time properly.
